does it really matter?

imho no, unless u avoid the rough bits. the subway will get u quickly anywhere and the taxi is much cheaper than it is anywhere in Europe, if that's what u fancy.

Walking can work too but I find you can only cover certain parts. f.e. the last time i stayed on 102nd and i walked the 50 blocks to my work easily in the space of 30 minutes, but if you'd want me to go to chinatown or the village from there i would have been screwed on foot.
